Scott and Hanson help Millers see off Staveley

Langley Mill 1sts beat Staveley by two wickets on Saturday in this second v third encounter in Division Two of the DCCL.

Staveley elected to bat and Jack Scott, returning to the starting line up, soon had the Staveley batsmen in trouble, as did skipper Wharton, who struck first to remove Brad Clarke.

Then Jack Scott bowled Joe Bullimore to leave Staveley 24-2. This brought the other two Bullimore brothers together and they looked to repair the early damage. They took the score up to 72 before Andrew Bailey struck, removing Tom Bullimore (19). Wharton carried on to bowl his 14 overs out and picked up another wicket, that of Chris Bullimore (28). Paul May held the Staveley innings together but Andrew Bailey and Thimal bowled well in tandem and restricted Staveley to three an over during their respective spells. Thimal picked up two caught and bowled while at the other end Jay Holmes took a stunning diving catch to give Bailey his second wicket.

Staveley finished on 169-7 off their 46 overs.

Jamie Salmons was promoted back up the order to open with Paul Bailey. This move looked promising as the Millers were 24-0 after eight overs. This became 40-2 as Chris Bullimore removed both openers. Further trouble lay ahead when the middle order collapsed to 76-7.

At this point, the heavens opened and an abandonment seemed the likely outcome. But the rain stopped and Jack Scott and Danny Hanson took centre stage. Both batted sensibly and 76-7 turned into 167-7 off 43 overs. There were two late twists as May came onto bowl but his over went for 20 and Hanson was run out for 43 but Scott finished the job off, blasting Tom Bullimore back over his head for four.

Hanson finished on 43 while Scott was 47 not out. The Millers next host Sandiacre with a 1.30pm start. The 2nds travel to play Sandiacre.
