Rain halts Ambergate run chase in its prime

Ambergate 1sts were cut off in their prime on Saturday in Division Two of the Derbyshire County League when the rain intervened in their run chase against Langley Mill United.

The Millers batted first. Wharton was bowled by Mason for seven and Jay Holmes suffered the same fate not long after.

Sajendra Thimal was involved in a mix-up with Bailey which ended in him being run out for 18.

This left the Millers on 77-3 off 26 overs. From here on, Ambergate made it hard for them to score.

The mainstay of the inning was Paul Bailey, who worked hard for his 57 but he fell in the 36th over with the score on 97.

The Millers’ lower order managed to reach 137 all out in the 45th over, with Wallace taking 3-23, and Mason and Thomas two wickets each.

Wes Thomas and Tom Holmes opened up for Ambergate against Langley Mill bowlers Jeff Wharton and Jack Scott and looked quite comfortable but then the heavens opened and no further play happened.

Ambergate finished on 44 for 0 off eight overs, clearly in a very healthy position to push on for victory so the Millers were the happier of the sides with the abandonment.

Ambergate took 11 points from the encounter and are second in the table, 12 points behind leaders Rolleston.
