Derby County are within a single point of the automatic promotion spots in the Championship after a 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers on Monday night.
The Rams, who are the division’s top scorers with 58 in the league this term, took all three points courtesy of John Eustace’s 20th-minute finish.
They are now just a point behind QPR in third and Burnley in second — but a distant 12 points behind high-flying leaders and East Midlands rivals Leicester City.
The only goal of the game at the iPro Stadium came on 20 minutes when Eustce took advantage of a miscued punch from former England ‘keeper Rob Green and returned a header into the back of the net.
A tense finale saw Harry Redknapp’s visitors carve out a success of late chances but they couldn’t find a leveller.
On the other hand Derby now have real hopes of making a return to the Premier League.
