Akhil Patel hit an unbeaten 61 for Ilkeston Rutland as they secured a five-wicket win over Alfreton in Division One of the Derbyshire County Cricket League.
Ilkeston won the toss and elected to bowl first, and it was a decision which paid off early on as Alfreton lost their top three batsmen to the bowling of Robert Green (3-40 from 15 overs).
However, Ryan Bramwell and skipper Jake Simpson put some runs on the board to give Alfreton a fighting chance. Bramwell went for 55 to the bowling of Patel (3-42 from 13.2 overs) but Simpson remained, finishing unbeaten on 42.
Jonathan Clarke was the only other Alfreton batsman, other than opener Tom Pawelski (14), to hit double figures but he went for 11 off the bowling of Jordan Crowder, who finished with top figures of 4-22 from his eight overs.
Alfreton were all out for 151 from 45.2 overs.
The reply saw contributions from David Smit (16), Scott Law (18), Shaun Levy (15) and Robert Green (17) as well as Patel’s 61* and Damien Jones’ 7* as Ilkeston got the required runs in 32.2 overs for the loss of five wickets.
Muhammed Rameez picked up 2-64, James Aldis 2-40 and Elliot Savidge 1-17 for Alfreton, who were rewarded with four points. Ilkeston Rutland gained 22.
The result saw the gap close between Ilkeston, in fourth on 152 points, and Alfreton, in third on 157 points, ahead of this weekend’s fixtures.
Alfreton, who have played a game more, host bottom side Quarndon while Ilkeston Rutland are away to mid-table Stainsby Hall.
