A magnificent, unbroken stand of 157 between Tom New and Elliot Savidge guided Alfreton to a thumping victory at Lullington Park in the First Division of the Derbyshire County League.

Alfreton were set a target of 215 by the hosts, and lost the wicket of Jonathan Woolley for 14 with the board reading 59.

But his opening partner New and number three Savidge proceeded to boss the rest of the match to ease their side home by nine wickets as early as the 45th over to collect 22 points.

New batted for 141 balls for his undefeated 93, which contained one six and 13 fours, while Savidge finished on 79no, which spanned only 66 deliveries and featured one six and ten fours.

Earlier, the Alfreton bowlers also looked as if they were going to make hay because both Lullington openers departed for ducks. But the tide turned thanks to contributions of 43 (one six and five fours) from the home skipper, Luke Jenkinson, 33 from William Arnold and a defiant last-wicket partnership of 42 between tailenders Nick Richards (28) and last man Tom Fern (14no).

Lullington finished on 214, with most of the wickets shared by Jonathon Clarke (3-35 in 11 overs), Muhammed Rameez (2-26 in 12 overs) and James Aldis (2-50 in 6.5 overs).
