The BHF Junior Golf Championship (Derbyshire Round) was played on Friday, April 19, at Chevin Golf Club in Duffield.
Teams came from many parts of the county representing local schools and golf clubs for the event, originally due to take place last month, until the snow intervened.
£2628 was raised on the day, through sponsorship by the players, all of whom were aged 11-18 but that is a running total as some money has still to be presented so the total will be even higher.
Two grand finals will be played at Close House, near Newcastle-upon-Tyne on July 15. One final will be for the top scoring golf teams and the other will feature the highest fundraisers.
Branston Team A won both categories, but cannot play in both finals. They have elected to contest the Players Final and Branston’s B Team (second-highest fund raisers) are promoted to play in the fundraisers final. Other teams who raised over £500 on the day also qualify for the final. They were Ashbourne and the Chevin B team.
The highest individual fundraiser was James Bailey from Branston A (£601).
Two individual competitions were held; nearest the pin on hole four (won by Luke Smethem of Chevin B) and the longest drive on hole 12 (won by Alex Harlow of Kedleston Park). The event was organised by Sue and Eric Moore, of Little Eaton, with help from members of Little Eaton, Belper and Duffield fundraising branch of British Heart Foundation.
