Valley slump to a home defeat against Mellish

Midlands 3 East (North)

Amber Valley 12, Mellish 31

VALLEY couldnt repeat the performance against Melbourne as they stuttured to a homne defeat against league strugglers Mellish. Straight from the off Mellish started the brighter and looked more up for the game. And the visitors opened the scoring in the first few minutes, a speculative kick was fielded well by Matt Rooke at full-back but the chase was good and the kick was charged down and the ball bounced kindly for the visitors to take a 5-0 lead.

They were soon on the scoreboard again as the visitors kicked for position, Rooke once again fielded the ball passed inside to Kirkup who should have cleared but again the good chase by Mellish caused a turnover and another score to be 12-0 ahead with only 10 minutes gone.

Valley faced an uphill battle but now got into their stride and played some good Rugby, the pack once again dominating the set piece and the boot of Dowdall made some good field position to eventually force a push over try for Gareth Turner.

Mellish again scored through a kick on, this time Valley moving the ball wide and moving the ball on one too many as Steemson tried of offload the ball was intercepted and hacked on, the Mellish winger won the footrace to once again score a try from a Valley mistake.

As half time approached Mellish kicked another penalty to move into a 22-5 lead.

The game was still their for Valley to win and they scored an early converted try to put them back in the game, but Mellish kept the scoreboard ticking over from valley infringements and the final scoring phase couldn’t be found as Valley slumped to a home defeat.

Valley take on Stamford in a home friendly this weekend.
