Amber Valley 1sts ran in eight tries on Saturday during a 46-7 win over Ashfield that has taken them to the top of the Midlands Four East (North) .

On paper this might look like an easy win, but in the second half especially Ashfield made Valley work very hard, and it was only in the last ten minutes that they scored three quick tries to put the gloss on the scoreboard that their first half dominance had suggested.

Duran Wardale skipped through the defence to score under the posts and open the scoring. Shortly after, he was forced off with a hip injury.

The second and third tries came in quick succession from good interpassing, finished off impressively by Matt Rooke and Will Hargreaves.

Valley grabbed the bonus point with a Steve Leadbeater try, picking from the base of a ruck and using his power go over the line. The half was finished with Adrian Head going over for his first of the day.

Ashfield had barely threatened in the first half, but came out all guns blazing. They were soon on the scoreboard with a converted try.

Valley struggled to find rhythm in the loose and fought on the backfoot for much of the third quarter. But as time went on the Ashfield fire dimmed and Valley scored through Adrian Head.

From the restart Head could have scored again, but Karl Bunting was on hand to recycle the ball and dive under the posts. He added a similar try a few minutes.

The next league game is on October 5 when Valley make thetrip to take on Belper.
