Ripley Running Club recently swapped the Derbyshire hills for the Lincolnshire countryside with an organised day trip to Spilsby for a six-mile race.
The race started off at the Spilsby Showground, a fun, festival type of environment with live music, outdoor bars, food, displays and exhibitions.
Ripley had three top ten finishers – Luke Beresford in sixth, 36.26, Matt Jones in seventh, 36.48 and Dean Taylor in ninth, 37.21. Next across the line was Phil Layton (19th 40.39) Rich Phillis (23rd 41.30) Lucy Taylor (26th 41.52) Simon English (29th 42.07) Karl Tietz (37th 44.02) Angie Forte (42nd 45.03) Wayne Yearwood (45th 45.19) Caroline Moss (48th 45.46) Jerry Bateman (58 46.29) Cathy Cresswell (63rd 47.17) Alison Butlin (76th 50.32) Eleanor Robinson (82nd 51.33) James Franco (93rd 53.46) Antoinette Franco (100th 56.08) and Matt Beresford (103rd 56.23). There were 129 runners.
The team finished by travelling to Skegness for a wander on the beach and some well-earned fish and chips.
Moving away from running, Ripley RC’s press officer Lisa Cashmore and a small group took to two wheels and cycled 96 miles from Ripley to Skegness to raise money for Children’s Brain Tumour Research. The team battled the elements and one member had a fall at 60 miles, but continued on to the end with a damaged bike.
Taking a break from her busy marathon-training schedule, this was a massive personal achievement for Lisa. Read Lisa’s story and donate here: https://www.justgiving.com/Lisa-Cashmore5
