Sunday saw the Robin Hood Nottingham Half Marathon take place in Nottingham with 13 runners from Ripley RC in the race, which this year had its course altered due to maintenance on the roads of the original course.
This meant a flatter course and so runners had more of a chance of their personal best time.
The course started and finished at the Victoria Embankment and passed Nottingham Castle, through the University Boulevard the Boot’s Campus and back to the finish line.
First back for Ripley, just behind the Kenyan elite runners, was Dale Annable in a time of 1.08.44 (pb) in sixth position and still keeping up with his great form this year, especially with the quality of the field.
Next back was Dean Taylor in a super time of 1.16.09. There was also a number of personal bests from Ryan Ball 1.29.42, Tim Moll 1.51.06, Wayne Smith 1.51.12, Amy Bradley 1.54.59 and Ryan Smith 2.02.29. The rest of Ripley times were R Philliss 1 .27. 4, L.Beresford 1.30.51, M.Beresford 1.30.51, W. Yearwood 1.35.51, S. Donoghue 1.49.46, V. Leach 2.01.16, L.Walton 2.29.36.
On the same day was the final triathlon of the season with three Ripley runners attending this very different event. Claire Duffin, one of the club’s experienced triathletes was joined by first timers at Ripley RC, Joanne Howett and James Franco.
They all started at the East Leake Leisure Centre, where the first part was a 400-metre swim (16 lengths of the pool). After their transition, it was time for the bike with a 20km road race to Kingston-on-Soar and back to the leisure centre, wherem after another transition, they had to get their running shoes on for a three-lap 5km run.
First back for Ripley was Claire Duffin in 139th and ninth in her age category. Next was Joanne Howett in 179th and 14th in her age category and James Franco was 193rd and 41st in his age category.
Ripley Running Club meets every Tuesday at Ripley Leisure Centre at 6.45pm. Runners of all abilities are welcome.
