Ripley Running Club enjoyed an excellent sequence of results at the annual Tour of The Derwent Valley over the bank holiday weekend.

Luke Beresford managed a fantastic second place in the opening race in Duffield.

The course was a 4.45 mile route from the Bridge Inn at Duffield, running up to the Holly Bush at Makeney and back.

Lucy Taylor was second lady, in 11th place on Friday night. Other Ripley runners were, Dean Taylor (6th), Tim Jaques (26th), Dennis Holmes (31st) and Carl Hopkinson (57th)

Beresford went one better in Race 2 around Wirksworth. Lucy Taylor, not to be outdone by her male colleague also took the honours in the ladies section.

Other Ripley Runners were, Dean Taylor (6th), Tim Jaques (22nd), Dennis Holmes (26th), Karl Tietz (40th), Cathy Cresswell (42nd), Carl Hopkinson 43rd).

Sunday’s race started and finished at The Bluebell Inn on Farnah Green.

The race started with a steep uphill section, before heading downhill for 2 miles, finishing back up the steep hill to the pub for the finish.

Luke Beresford once again took the lead for Ripley, finishing in second place on the day, while Lucy Taylor was again first lady, in 11th overall.

Dean Taylor took fourth, improving his placing on the previous two days.

Other Ripley Runners were; Richard Kimber (9th), Dennis Holmes (22nd), Tim Jaques (31st), Esther Broughton (32nd), Karl Tietz (34th), Cathy Cresswell (44th), Carl Hopkinson (46th), Ian Warton-Woods (50th), Alison Butlin (67th).

The most difficult of the four races was the final race of the series.

Starting in Rowsley, the route takes runners up hill to Stanton in the Peak, before heading back down to finish in Rowsley.

Two miles up steep hills, and two miles back down equally steep hills makes this a very tough course.

Luke Beresford finished off his weekend with another second place finish on the same time as winner Mark Boot from Long Eaton.

Lucy Taylor also managed a second place in the ladies category on the day, 20th overall. Dean Taylor was sixth, Tim Jaques (29th), Cathy Cresswell (40th) and Carl Hopkinson (43rd) completed the Ripley Team.

Overall Results.

Luke Beresford took first place in the overall tour, beating Ely Runners’ Gordon Irvine by two minutes.

Lucy Taylor took the win in the ladies section, completing a great weekend for both her and Luke.

Dean Taylor was fourth overall, unable to defend his title from 2014, but coming very close to it. Tim Jaques (20th) and Carl Hopkinson (30th) were also in the Ripley team that completed all four races.
