Ripley Amateur Boxing Club is holding an Open Day on Saturday, August 10.
The event will feature a sponsored Boxathon (11am-noon) where a team of 20 junior members and coaches are aiming to deliver 15,000 punches to a target in 60 minutes.
The club will also have a coaching clinic and an Ozbox fitness session. The money raised will go towards replacing and renewing the existing gym equipment, which is currently in a poor state.
RABC has been running since 2009, and it recently welcomed a new team of volunteer coaches responsible for the day to day running of the club.
A huge amount of work has been put into applying for funding and starting fundraising to try and move this popular club forward.
Boxing-based fitness training is becoming known as an excellent way to achieve increased fitness levels and self esteem and the club is getting an increasing amount of enquiries from young people wishing to train.
Taster sessions enable new members to learn the basics and provide a smooth transition into the club sessions.
Skills and values taught include fitness, team building and discipline, which allow young people to channel their energies in a positive direction.
The sessions enhance their personal and social development, whilst steering them away from anti-social behaviour. This is an innovative project as it is inclusive, open to all regardless of ability, fitness and gender.
The open day runs from 10am-4pm at Unit 2a, Unicorn Business Park, Wellington Street, Ripley, DE5 3EH and all are welcome.
