Mixed results for Langley Mill youth sides


Langley Mills U15’s lost to Belper Meadows after finding scoring runs tough.

Batting first the Millers could only muster 68 from their 20 overs with Nathan Yeomans top scoring 17.

After this only Max Bradley (13*) and Kiegen Wing (11) got into double figures.

For Belper Joe Bell was the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 16. Chris Howkins, Jamie Kelly and Ben Cooper all picked up a wicket a piece.

In reply the Millers got off to a good start with Kyle Harris picking up two wickets in his first two overs, but opener Charlie Joyce saw his side home with 31 not out.

Coral Wing and Matt Slack picked up the other two wickets as Belper beat the Millers by five wickets.

Langley Mills U13 entertained Belper Amateurs U13s on a cold Tuesday night at Station Road.

Skipper Kiegen Wing won the toss and elected to bat first. The Millers amassed 109 for 2 from their 15 overs.

Kiegen Wing (27*) and Dan Connelly (27*) joint top scored and both retired.

Danny Parr also scored 21, but was one of the three wickets to fall along with Freddie Clarence (5) and George Marsh (0).

For Belper Sam Smirthurst picked up a wicket and there were two wickets for George Deeming.

In reply Belper ran out of overs as they fell seven short. Both openers retired, Will Cope (25) and Sam Smithurst (26).

Dan Needham was run out for 12 which left Lewis Walker (1*) and Izzak Mongomery (10*) at the end to try and push Belper over the line.

In the end some tight bowling won it for the millers.

The millers are joint top with Denby on 14 points
