It’s been an action-packed weekend for Ripley Running Club with a whole host of races taking place.

The local Tour of Derwent Races started on Friday night and finished on Monday afternoon.

Friday night’s race took place in Duffield with the super-fast Dean Taylor finishing first for the club in 4th place with a time of 25.43. Mark Tomlinson followed in 13th place in 27.37. Lucy Holmes took the honours for the Ripley ladies, finishing in first place in a fantastic time of 28.10.

Race two took place in Wirksworth. First back for Ripley was Mark Tomlinson in 14th with a time of 27.48. Lucy Holmes flew home again in first place for the ladies in 28:03.

Race three ran around Milford. Again in a fantastic time of 34.25 Mark Tomlinson led the Ripley crew earning 9th place. Lucy Holmes was next and again first lady in 34.25.

The final leg of the tour took place in Rowsley in the pouring rain. Lucy Holmes took second lady position this time in 27:41. Mark Tomlinson again led the Ripley men in 17th place and a great time of 28:26. Karl Teitz finished 30th in 30:55 and 44th was Pete Shaw in 33:30.

Last week saw 16 weeks of training pay off for Ripley runners Lucy Holmes and Karl Tietz, who both took part in the Edinburgh Marathon. Lucy completed the marathon in a time of 3 hours 10 minutes 49 seconds in 388th place out of 9,660 runners and was 21st lady.

Sunday’s marathon was not only a personal best time but also qualifies Lucy for a guaranteed place in next year’s London Marathon, where she will line up with the fastest runners in the UK. Lucy’s training partner Karl completed the course in 3 hours 32 minutes 21 seconds, finishing in 1,413th place.
