Icy conditions conquered

THE last Sunday before Christmas saw Ripley Runners attend the Bolsover 10km race.

The race was set in the attractive Derbyshire countryside overlooking the Vale Of Scarsdale .

A single lap course gently undulating along country lanes with rolling fields at either side, which was perfect for people after their personal best time ,and even with it being icy underfoot four Ripley Runners succeeded.

Matt Bickerstaff was first back for Ripley in 18th place ,in a great personal best time another outstanding performance!

Steve Broughton ,Simon English ,Amy Bradley, Ryan Smith also had personal best times ,all in all a great result all round.

The times were 18th Matt Bickerstaff (35.31)PB, 81st Ryan Ball (40.18); 114th Steve Broughton (41.59) PB; 127th Simon English(42.35) PB; 180th Wayne Yearwood (44.56); 246th Pete Shaw (46.54)l; 262nd Anne Cook (47.11); 353rd Eleanor Robinson (49.38); 384th Ryan Smith (50.21) PB; 621st Bridget Smith(58.25) and 624th Amy Bradley (58.40) PB.

On the same day was the Telford 10km, another fast course which was split between sub 40 elite runners and the slower runners starting at different times.

Two of the Ripley elite entered this Race, Dean Taylor and number one lady runner Lucy Holmes, whilst being icy and muddy underfoot it should have deterred our runners but it didn’t. Dean Taylor came back in a superb personal best time of 35.47, while Lucy Holmes came back in a great time of 39.12.
