Horsley Lodge Golf Club member Andrew Picken has recently had a memorable golfing experience, courtesy of Callaway Golf Europe.
He was one of eight amateur golfers who won a Europe-wide competition resulting in him being invited to attend Wentworth Golf Club, the HQ of the European Tour, as a guest of Callaway golf.
The day consisted of a comprehensive Tour Professional fitting experience.
He was given access to all the new range of clubs recently released, including the Bertha and Bertha Alpha drivers.
He was able to enjoy exactly the same trial process as Henrik Stenson, last year’s most successful golfer in the world, with the same Callaway staff and monitoring equipment.
Once fitted, he was asked to perform a series of swings which were filmed by Sky Sports TV to be used throughout the new golf season during every hour of golf coverage by Sky Sports.
Andy, who has been a member of Horsley Lodge GC for four years, said: “This was an incredible opportunity. We were treated like Golfing VIPs throughout the day.
“Wentworth is an amazing venue. The filming was nerve wracking, but great fun. It will seem very strange watching my golfing heroes like Stenson and Mickleson appearing in the same adverts as myself. I am still wondering what will happen to my outtakes, I seemed to get more than most!”
To add even more to the day, the prize winners were then treated to a one-to-one session with the World Long Driving Champion Joe Miller, whose record drive is 474 yards.
All the winners received new shirts, waterproofs, gloves and balls and at the end of the day each winner was surprised to be told to expect a brand new driver made to the exact specifications ascertained in the fitting process as a gift from Callaway.
