Men and women who would like to try their hand at a spot of basketball for the first time, or get back into the sport, are being invited to go along to new weekly ‘pay and play’ sessions, that are up and running at Ripley Leisure Centre.

The coaching sessions are aimed at giving an introduction to the sport for men and women aged 15 or over, taking place every Friday evening.

The sessions will cost £3 per person per session, and will run from 6pm to 7pm.

They got under way at the end of January.

Anyone who would like to go along can just turn up on the evening or register their interest by contacting Derbyshire basketball development officer Lucy Willets at lucy.willets@lincolnshiresports.co.uk

No experience is needed and men and women of all abilities are welcome. No basketball kit is required, just sports clothing and trainers.

Lucy Willets, basketball development officer for Derbyshire, said: “These sessions are open to men and women of all abilities, whether you have never played basketball before or want to get back into a sport you used to enjoy. Come along and give it a go.”

The sessions are being delivered by level two-qualified basketball coach Barish Salih, from the Derby Trailblazers Basketball Club.

Barish Salih said: “Basketball is a fantastic sport, it’s great fun and easy to get into.

“The sessions in Ripley will be sociable and informal, great for new players.”

The sessions form part of England Basketball’s ‘Ball Again’ initiative.

This is aimed at encouraging more people to try basketball for the first time or rediscover their love for the game.
