Round Three of the Booth Decorators Cross Country league took place at Trent Meadows, Long Eaton.

Over 200 local club runners came together to run the relatively flat but slightly muddy course, which sits alongside the River Trent.

Ripley’s men were yet again slightly upstaged by the ladies of the club, who finished fourth out of the 13 teams, whilst the men achieve seventh place on the day.

Ripley ladies now regularly account for over 30 per cent of the members participating in races including cross country, 10k and Half Marathon events which previously would have seen fewer than half this number participate.

The first lady home for Ripley RC was Cathy Cresswell, who completed the 4.9 mile run in 38.07 for 12th lady, with Jo Howett only seconds behind, 38.45 for 16th lady, followed by Esther Broughton in 39.52, 19th lady to complete the Ripley ladies team.

The other Ripley ladies times and positions were: Eleanor Robinson 44.05/34th lady and first lady over 65, Alison Butlin 47.30/43rd and Lisa Walton 53.53/53rd.

For the mens team, the seven to count were Dean Taylor 22nd/30.51, Martin Penny 67th/34.11,Vin Harlin 69th/34.13, Wayne Smithurst 74th/34.35, Rich Phillis 90th/35.34, Phil Woodman 91st/35.35 and Dennis Holmes 96th/36.26.

Bringing up the rear were Karl Tietz 103rd/36.48, Carl Hopkinson 105th/37.14, Jerry Bateman 109th/37.30, Steve Donoghue 135th/39.17, Mike Corrigan 172nd/43.19 and Jay Bird 176th/44.33.

Ripley Running Club meets every Tuesday at 6.45pm at RIpley Leisure Centre and encourage runners of all abilities to come and join us for a run.

Now is an ideal time to start running with plenty of spring races to aim for or simply as part of your early New Year’s resolution to get fit in 2014. More than one third of the active membership are ladies with an equal split between those who race and those who run for fitness. See
