Call goes out for triathlon

RNID-Action on Hearing Loss is issuing a final call to triathlon enthusiasts across Amber Valley to take part in this year’s Virgin Active London Triathlon.

The national charity is inviting fundraisers to sign up for the two-day event, which is taking place at London’s ExCel Centre on July 30 and 31 July, in order to help raise essential funds for research into hearing loss and tinnitus, and to support people who are deaf and hard of hearing.

Participants don’t need Herculean strength to complete the course. It can start with as little as a 400m swim in the River Thames, a 10km bike ride, and a 2.5km run.

For more experienced triathletes, there is an Olympic Plus course which includes an epic 80km cycle.

Places are now limited, with an entry cost of £50 for an individual and a fundraising pledge of £550, or £150 entry cost for a team of three and a fundraising pledge of £1,300.

Neil Coote, 56, took part in last year’s Triathlon and raised a fantastic £660 for RNID. He said of the challenge: “I was so pleased to be offered a place to compete in my first London Triathlon. I very much enjoyed competing in the event, the camaraderie was fabulous and the support from RNID was really quite magnificent.”
