It has been a busy couple of weeks for Ripley Running Club, including some important club races to note.
The club sent a team to the British Fell and Hill Relay Championships, against the best clubs and best runners in the country.
The tough course on the Pennine hills around Burnley tested running ability and navigational skills.
Team Ripley comprising of Luke Beresford, Simon English, Wayne Smithurst, Mick Wareham and Matt Jones came a commendable 78th out of 142 teams.
The same weekend was the first round in the Booth Decorators League cross country race of the season with Ripley hosting and organising the race at Shipley Park.
Beresford finished in 17th followed by Jones in 19th, Rob Coates in 24th and Richard Kimber in 40th.
Lucy Taylor was the first lady home in 58th place.
Other notable performances include Dennis Holmes (62nd), Simon English (66th), Jack Tymon (67th), Vince Harlin (71st), Matt Baker (111th), Esther Broughton (120th), Carl Hopkinson (121st), Peter Collinge (128th), Cathy Cresswell (132nd), Karl Tietz (147th) and Ryan Orton (201st).
Ripley finished the day lying sixth in the men’s competition and fourth in the ladies’ competition.
On the same day, two Ripley runners made the journey to Amsterdam to compete in their annual half marathon.
The relatively flat course around the canals of the beautiful Dutch city provided two personal bests with Ian Warton-Woods coming home in 1:44.42 followed by Andy Hill in 1:52.46.
This weekend, four Ripley runners made the journey to Snowdonia to complete the Snowdon Marathon.
The 26.2 mile race is run on roads around Snowdon including the hilly Pen-Y-Pass climb.
The tough course combined with wet conditions meant the results were even more impressive.
Dean Taylor finished in 3.09.11, and Wayne Smithurst completed the course in 4.05.30 closely followed by Matt Nicholls in 4.06.22.
Alison Butlin completed her debut marathon in a respectable 5.13.35 minutes
Ripley also had 10 runners at the popular Worksop Half.
First home was Luke Beresford in 1:18.40 followed by Richard Kimber in a personal best time of 1:24.29.
Veterans Dennis Holmes (1:30.57), Wayne Yearwood (1:40.06) and Jerry Bateman (1:45.24) also finished in commendable times.
Other Ripley finishers included Ian Warton-Woods (1:47.34) Richard Cauldwell (1:50.06), Elaine Ozenbrook (2:02.41), Antoinette Franco (2:08.02) and James Franco (2:36.09)
Ripley Running Club also hosted its second monthly Alfreton Park Community 5k Run on Saturday. Thirty-one runners turned out to enjoy the three lap course. Anybody is welcome to enter this run which next takes place on 28th November at 9am.
