Amber Valley Hornets first team secured a 1-0 win at Derby thank to a goal from Sarah Joyce.
It was not a performance to remember, but Amber Valley will be delighted to have picked up maximum points in what is expected to be a tight league.
Bev Allan started up front with Charlotte Welsby and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet after taking up some good positions.
At the other end Jennie Bowmer and Rachael Warner in the net kept the Hornets focusing on their shape.
The game was pretty evenly matched with both sides moving the ball well, but Derby seemed just that bit quicker in the tackles and looked to have that bit more hunger.
But good runs from defence from Terri Cartledge and Kate Salt helped open up the play and gave support to Alex Ormston and Emily Hall either side of midfield, and Lynn Creswell in the centre.
The only goal of the game came before the break from Sarah Joyce, who came on from the bench for the Hornets.
After the break Derby continued to pressure the Hornets at every opportunity and Tracey Harris at sweeper and Vicki Wain in the heart of the defence had to work as a unit to keep Derby’s chances to break into the D down.
Dawn Spendlove held the centre of the park well as the Hornets stood firm to secure the victory.
