Last weekend saw the return of the popular Tour of the Derwent Valley running series.
Ripley Running Club had a great turnout over the four-day event. Race one was from The Bridge Inn at Duffield. The club’s standings after the first race included: 1st Luke Beresford 25:15, 2nd Dean Taylor 25:26, 10th Ryan Ball 27:23.
Race two was a scenic and hilly route, starting near Wirksworth, going out towards Alport. Seven Ripley runners returned. Dean was second again and became the tour leader at this halfway point with a 29-second lead on second. Ron Ilsley had another great race and was locked into a very exciting battle for the M50 category, in second place with only a few seconds between the top five M50s.
Tim Jaques overtook Lucy Taylor in the tour and gained a 27-second lead, Tim was 20th place and Lucy was 24th. Eleanor Robinson was holding her own with people less than half her age and was 60th. She led the W60 category at this point and would eventually be second in the W50 category.
Race three at Milford started with 15 runners. Dean Taylor led the tour by winning the hilly five-mile race in 30:55, taking him into the fourth and final race with a 1:17 second lead.
Race four at Rowsley had seven Ripley runners. Dean Taylor was third in 25:28, 17th was Ron Ilsley 28:45, and 30th Tim Jaques 30:36. After all four races Dean Taylor won the tour. Ron Ilsley was 11th and fourth in the M50 category. Tim Jaques finished 20th and Lucy Taylor 24th. Carl Hopkinson was 29th, Esther Broughton was 34th and Eleanor 53rd and 1st W60.
