Two talented members of the Ripley-based Wragsters Kickboxing Academy were in winning action at the weekend.

On Sunday, Team Wragsters travelled to the National Brewery Centre in Burton-on-Trent for their last outing of the year.

Lee Graves, in his second full contact bout and coming off a loss from 2012, trained really hard for this opportunity and wanted the win.

Lee took control of the fight and his opponent went down three times in round one.

Round two saw Lee picking perfect shots to the body and head and, 36 seconds into round two, he put his opponent down and was unable to make the count, therefore enabling Lee to win by a second round knockout.

Wragsters’ Arran Kendrick was next up.

After getting off his sickbed, and struggling to breath well as a result, he nevertheless hit his poor opponent with all of his arsenal.

However, his game opponent showed true heart and battled through it, putting Arran under pressure all through the fight. Eventually, Arran won a points decision.

Lee Wragg from Wragsters Kickboxing Academy explained: “Lee put everything into it. He dedicated the win to his granddad, who has passed away recently. We didn’t know that, but Lee was so determined to take part in the event and win. He trained so hard and he got his reward. He came out strongly and he really hurt the guy throughout. Lee put everything on hold to get ready for this fight and he was excellent.

“Arran’s was a close fight but considering he’d had man flu leading up to it, he did very well! He was down on energy leading up to it but he showed a lot of spirit. He forced a standing eight count in the second round and that’s probably what swung it for him as the other rounds were tight.”

He added: “We were very pleased with both of them and it was a good end to the year.”
