Last weekend proved a very busy one for Ripley Running Club with members participating in no fewer than four separate races.
On the Saturday, it was the Nine Edges race endurance race from Fairholmes to Baslow, taking in the Nine Gritstone Edges in a very tough 20-mile course.
Mat Jones and Wayne Smithurst both completed the course in 3 hrs 12 mins for 32nd and 33rd places out of 147 finishers. The race is organised by Edale Mountain Rescue to help them raise funds which suppor the valuable work they do in helping people in difficulty in the hills of North Derbyshire.
On the Sunday, the club had members running in three different races in three different counties.
Locally, at the Ashbourne Half Marathon, both Richard Sims and Angela-Marie Forte achieved magnificent times of 1.30.05 and 1.50.29 on a very challenging and hilly course.
Further afield at Great Ponton, near Grantham, three members completed the 17-mile route while four members finished the 27-mile route of the Ponton Plod, an ultra-event organised by the long distance walking association but open to runners too.
Ripley finish times and positions were as follows: 17 miles – 25th Steve Adams 3hr 31 mins, 33rd Antoinette Franco 3.59, 34th Anne Cook 3.59. 27.5 miles 8th Richard Phillis 4.34, 9th Dennis Holmes 4.34, 21st Wayne Yearwood 5.13, 33rd Eleanor Robinson 5.50

Next in for Ripley was Mike Corrigan with 1.47.36, a very respectable time for the vet 50 category and placed him just in front of Ripley half marathon debutant Dave Kinder, who recorded 1.48.55, having never previously run further than further than eight miles.
Ripley’s final finisher, also a vet 50 and a regular of the Great North Run, Dave Crowder, achieved a time of 1.53.29, giving him a finishing position, still in the top third at 12,581st.
