Marehay 2nd XI 205ao (27pts) beat Breadsall 1st XI 141ao (7pts) by 64 runs

MAREHAY’S second team continued their push for promotion with a maximum points home win against Breadsall on Saturday.

Batting first, the home side were bowled out in the final over for 205 with contributions from Craig Robinson (32), Marc Pykett (45) and Ady Vickerage (53).

Henry Guyler (5/57) and Nick Hinckley (3/40) were the pick of the Breadsall attack.

After tea, the visitors started well in putting on 45 for the first wicket before Chris Bradder removed both openers.

The Breadsall middle order all failed to build on starts and no batsmen managed more than opener Sam Dutton (24) as wickets fell at regular intervals with Bradder (5/40) and Darren Hooley (3/28) causing most of the damage.

With Breadsall looking to bat out for a draw, Tom Burke got the all important final wicket to claim victory by 64 runs with just 11 balls remaining.

The 27 points haul gives Marehay a real boost, now just eight points behind leaders Heanor but with a game in hand.

The closing three weekends look certain to bring a close finish in Division 4 North with five teams still vying for promotion.

Marehay have a no fixture this weekend but will be watching other results with interest.
