Lucy provides race of night

Runners aged between six and 77 took part in the first of two fell races over the Chevin Hill in the Derbyshire village of Milford on Thursday, August 4 (writes David Denton).

This augers well for the future of a sport that is both challenging and enjoyable, with hills and descents over some beautiful countryside.

After the first climb, Ashbourne’s Adam Rollitt and Ian Hunter of Kimberley were in the lead but after the second climb, Ashbourne-based Bristol University student, Peter Northall took the lead and went on to win in 29.52 finishing 24 seconds ahead of Hunter with Rollitt a further half minute in arrears.

The run of the night came from Ripley’s Lucy Holmes who, in knocking over two minutes from her personal best, finished in fifth place overall, two minutes ahead of Laura Kent from Cheltenham.
