Local derby ends in entertaining draw

Heanor Town 1sts (16pts) 250-6 [46 overs] (A Brear 106, T Hessey 41, C Braddock 3-72) drew with Marehay 2nds (12pts) 227-6 [46 overs] (A Vickerage 68, C Robinson 46, B Caulton 36, A Mann 3-78)

IT WAS a high scoring and entertaining draw at the Heanor Town Ground on Saturday, with visitors Marehay seconds falling just short of the home side total.

It was a good batting track on a sunny day and captain Andy Brear was in great form for the second time in the week.

He completed a fine 106 and received support from Trevor Hessey who made 41.

In reply, Marehay took on the total but fell short by 23 runs with Vickerage making a good 68.

Robinson 46 and Caulton 36 gave depth to the Marehay line-up and this was a well contested and even game with neither side having the upper hand with all bowlers struggling to take wickets.

Earlier in the week, Heanor had crushed Belper Meadows in the Butterley Cup with captain Andy Brear producing a typical belligerent innings with a whirlwind 87 not out.
