Alfreton (22pts) 74-4 [40.4 overs] (J Elliott 43*) beat Heanor Town (2pts) 73-9 [46 overs] (A Priestley 4-22) by 6 wickets
HEANOR Town CC finally managed to get a game of cricket for this first time in 2012.
The second XI made the short trip to the Art College Ground at Alfreton to play the host third XI and appropriately for the venue the view of the spectators resembled “The Scream” painting recently in the news.
Heanor lost the vital toss and were sent in on a low, slow wicket and progress was turgid.
Only one boundary was scored and that was a six as Heanor struggled to 73 for 9 in 46 overs. Gary Hickinbottom dropped anchor and scored 18 not out and Adam Harchuk also made 18 but the bowlers had the upper hand throughout with Priestley 4 for 22, Rooke 2 for 17 and Thorpe 2 for 11.
In reply Heanor claimed three wickets fairly early but the experience of John Elliot steered his side home with an unbeaten 40 as victory came in the 41st over as the weather got colder and damper. There were wickets for Paul Fletcher, Adam Harchuk, Steve Morley and Liam Barlow as the home side reached 74 for 4.
Well at least one fixture has been played although it will be memorable for all the wrong reasons. The wet weather is set to continue and the Spring is the worst ever remembered by this correspondent.
