Young Lions suffer 3-1 defeat away at Radford

Radford Reserves 3

Heanor Reserves 1

The Young Lions were hoping to complete the double over Radford after inflicting a 4-1 win earlier in the season, but ended the game with a 3-1 defeat against a stronger home side, writes Stan Wilton.

After withstanding some early Radford pressure, including a goalline clearance by Jake Davis and a good point blank save from Pickworth, Heanor went close after good work by Josh Henrys fed Jack Smith on the edge of the box and his shot had to be pushed wide.

Andreas Kokkinou did brilliantly down the left and Henrys again fed Smith with Apenitis again tipping the ball around the post.

On 32 minutes, Radford went ahead after a Babatunde free kick eluded the Heanor defence and Adam Pemberton poked the ball home.

Radford were 2-0 up on 48 minutes when Johnson headed in from close range and worse was to come after a harsh free kick decision against them was punished further when unmarked Michael Coyle headed past Pickworth.

Barber tried his luck with a snap shot and Heanor were given a penalty for a raised arm, which Duerden smashed in the back of the net emphatically to make it 3-1.

Josh Henrys made way for Liam Knifton on 77 minutes but it was all too late for the Young Lions as their hosts ran out 3-12 victors.
