Melbourne Dynamo are celebrating being Christmas Number One after the Midlands Regional Alliance Premier Division saw them become the fourth different team to top the table in the past four weeks.
Dynamo’s unbeaten record in the league continued with a 5-0 win over Little Eaton on Saturday, with Dave Brough (two), Michael Tristram, Matt Brian and Danny Guild getting the goals.
Bargate Rovers are also celebrating after an excellent 4-2 victory over Shardlow St James earned them their first Division One win of the season.
Martin Sanders (two), Nathan Poyser, and Luke Brown scored for Rovers, with Mark Green hitting a brace for the Saints in reply. Wirksworth Ivanhoe sit top of the pile in Division One after a 2-0 win at Punjab United.
Newhall United Reserves kept up the pressure on the leaders in Division Two after a 5-2 win at Roe Farm, while Ambergate Reserves and Pastures Reserves were deadlocked at 1-1 in the other league fixture.
The rest of the Midlands Regional Alliance found themselves in Challenge Cup action, with the biggest margin of victory coming at Pastures where visitors Rowsley ’86 Reserves hit ten goals without reply.
Liam Hallam (3), Ben Harrison (2), Anthony Porter (2), Henry Broatch, Joe Heron, and Nathan Moore scored the goals to eliminate Pastures in spectacular fashion.
An illness-hit Allestree side went down 4-0 at home to Cromford, for whom Scott Gascoyne, Ady Kershaw, Scott Spencer, and player-manager Danny Wildgoose got the goals, and Willington beat Tibshelf by the same score-line after Joe Brockley and Sam Bartram hit two goals each. Derby Singh Brothers progressed after winning a tricky tie against an in-form Melbourne Dynamo Reserves by two-goals-to-one.
