Title-chasing Swanwick Pentrich Road were happy to hold on to their unbeaten record after facing a stiff examination from plucky visitors, Hucknall Rolls Leisure, in the Central Midlands League’s South Division.
In a hard-fought, physical battle, another goal by Shane Buckerfield gave the Swans a lead in the opening minute. But with several players unavailable for various reasons, they were pegged back for a 1-1 draw that lifted them to third in the table and made it nine games without defeat.
As in previous weeks, Swanwick started the game with terrific drive and broke through from a corner after neat play down the right. Chris Turner delivered accurately to the front post where, thanks to a well-timed run, Buckerfield volleyed home.
Rolls responded with a direct game on the small pitch, with their strikers, Jack Smith and Jack Allen, proving a handful. And they equalised on 20 when the referee awarded a penalty after deciding that Rory Smith had been pulled back, even though there had been minimal contact. Greg Conn made no mistake from the spo.
Swanwick continued to play neat football, with Buckerfield and Guy Wilding particularly impressive, and they forced visiting ‘keeper Jack Walker into some smart saves. They were denied a penalty of their own when Wilding was tripped, although at the other end, Adam Jablonski pulled off a brilliant save to deny Rolls substitute Robbie Manners and was relieved when Smith rounded him only to shoot wide.
