Sickness bug hits Shirland MW hard

THE second week’s fixtures saw Shirland MW wishing the weekend had passed them by.

Due to a sickness bug which had swept through the village, they were only able to field ten players against All Inn FC.

It wasn’t long before All Inn scored their first goal with a beautiful through-ball to Rocky White who calmly put the ball away.

Shirland were suddenly on the back foot but somehow managed to regain their composure and claw themselves level a couple of minutes before the break with a goal from Steve Wright.

The second half saw All Inn net two more quick goals but a battling Shirland side never gave up and their attacking enterprise brought a second goal o;n 77 minutes when Harrison crossed into the danger zone after a good build-up work involving Archbold who was thrn brought down just outside the penalty area.

Archbold gained revenge by curling the free kick into the top right corner for what could only be described as the perfect goal.

The game ended 3-2 to All Inn but was marred by a disgraceful challenge from Rocky White who saw a straight red in the last kick of the game.

Elsewhere, Laburnum Saints got back to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Darley Dale. Steve Prime hit two stunning goals for Saints.

Black Hippo ended Matlock Sports’ fine start with a 3-2 victory. Sports were frantic at the start but on 30 minutes Lewis McGuinness scored with a fine finish but their joy was short-lived as Hippo hit back with a goal from James Fruhwald.

Hippo started on the front foot after the interval and went ahead on 53 minutes through Oli Willson and the lead was extended with a comical own goal from Sports’ stand-in keeper. Daz Newell scored the other goal for Hippo.
