Selston players say sorry for 12-0 drubbing by buying fans tickets to next game
Selston FC’s players apologised for their 12-0 humiliation against Long Eaton by buying fans tickets to their next match.
The Villagers were battered in midweek at home to Long Eaton United but came back in style to knock Eastwood CFC out of the FA Vase on penalties at the weekend.
It saw regular supporters enter the ground for free after the embarrassed players dug into their own pockets.
“The players paid for the regulars to come, which was a nice touch,” added Moore.
“It was driven completely by the players, they know people have paid out for sponsorships and season tickets.
“Everyone in the squad, even those not in the team on Wednesday, were really disappointed with the performance more than the result.
“If you lose 12-0 and have been played off the park you have to hold your hands up, but we were not good enough from start to finish.
“One of the lads said it was a nice touch to repay the fans. They stayed for the whole 90 mins, it wasn’t like they left at four or five. They stuck by us and spoke to the players about keeping their chins up.”
Moore also hailed his troops for sticking together during a difficult time and bouncing back in style.
“I am really pleased with the reaction of the players and the whole club, the committee were really supportive,” he said.
“Wednesday was a bit of a disaster and we were all really down in the dumps. We managed to stick by each other though and we made a few changes for the weekend..
“We managed to get the result that we were after on Saturday. We are all about sticking together and that is what we will have to keep doing.
“The new players have bought into it which is brilliant, it is the togetherness that we can offer and we have to get as much out of the players as we can by doing that.”
