Second loss in a row for reserves

Heanor Town Reserves 1

Holbrook Sports Reserves 3

The young Lions were defeated, despite creating a number of good chances, writes Stan Wilton.

They began the game brightly as Dean Robinson broke down the right and his dangerous low cross was missed by Andreas Kokkinou.

Jack Smith went close twice, Butener in the visiting goal saving well.

Then Robinson forced Butener into another tremendous save which Heanor’s Ross Cherry matched on 16 minutes.

Holbrook took the lead from the resulting corner when Liam Barber scored an own goal.

Sean Gardner’s excellent delivery found Luke Duerden on the six-yard box but his shot struck the bar.

The Brookies extended their lead when Danny Arnold sidefooted into an empty net on 24 minutes.

Smith had a shot from the edge of the box, but Butener palmed the ball away and Cherry had to make another tremendous save at the other end.

The Lions continued to pass poorly in the second half and when Kial Thurman lost possession Aaron Brady punished Heanor with a chip over Cherry.

Heanor’s pressure finally paid off when Kokkinou weaved his way into the box and laid the ball off for Deurden’s left-foot shotto reduce the arrears.

Robinson was twice denied and Duerden saw his effort turned round the post.
