HOLBROOK St Mich-aels were the victims as Matlock Sports finally discovered some form.
The Saints were thumped 5-0 away as Sports, whose defence had leaked 59 goals prior to this game, kept their first clean sheet.
Dan Bridge hit a brace for the Matlock club who also had Steve Pardey, Joss Timmins and Lee Boden on target in the much-needed victory.
League leaders Allenton United suffered their third defeat of the season as they went down 2-1 at home to Mickleover RBL.
The visitors also provided Allenton’s goal for them.
None of the teams chasing top spot profited though as Cromford lost 1-0 to Wirksworth Town, Rowsley ‘86 were thrashed 6-0 at Melbourne Dynamo and Derby Royals and Swanwick Pentrich Road drew 1-1, Adam Bellamy got the Swanwick goal which put the Swans in front on 25 minutes, Royals equalised with a fluke yet unstoppable goal with five minutes or so left.
New manager Alan Morris felt Swanwick responded well and put a good effort in with captain Gareth Ellis leading by example.
A Chellaston player suffered a suspected broken leg in his side’s 3-0 win at Ashover while Willington went down 6-1 to Derby Rolls-Royce Leisure.
Allestree closed on top spot in division one after beating Pastures 5-1 with Steve Bills scoring a hat-trick and other goals coming from Michael Wells and Adem Mahmood.
Bottom team Mickleover RBL Reserves lost 1-0 to Tibshelf whilst Ripley Town’s recent good run came to an end with a 3-2 home defeat against Derby Singh brothers. Jonathan Webb and an own goal accounting for the Ripley scores.
Dean Corney scored for Bargate Rovers in a 1-1 draw with Little Eaton while Steve Burrell netted for Woolley moor United and Simon Breamer for Punjab United in their 1-1 draw. Findern beat Derbyshire Amateurs 4-3.
There was only one game in division two with Wirksworth Town Reserves beating Pastures Reserves 4-2, Jack Currell (2), Andy Brown and Joe Bradbury notching the Wirksworth goals.
County Junior Cup
It was a good day for the league in the first round of the Derbyshire County FA Junior Cups with only Punjab United Reserves, 8-2 losers at home to Ilkeston Rutland, and Melbourne Dynamo Reserves, beaten 4-1 on penalties after a 2-2 draw, losing to teams from other leagues.
Vinnie Hallifield and Jack Tivey scored for Melbourne in that loss to Codnor MW.
In all-MRA clashes in the southern section, Allenton United reserves beat Ambergate 2-1 after extra time; Chellaston Reserves beat Derby Royal Reserves 1-0 and Swanwick Pentrich Road Reserves won 5-1 at Roe Farm.
In the one match involving MRA teams in the northern section, Wirksworth Ivanhoe won 1-0 at Rowsley ‘86 Reserves with Ben March scoring the only goal of the game.
In the southern section, Dean Tomlinson and Joe Carnelly both scored for Holbrook St Michaels Reserves as they beat Newhall United Reserves 2-0.
Little Eaton Reserves won 8-1 at ASC Ilkeston thanks to goals from Dan Buckley (2), Darren Moore (2), Gav McReadie, Joe Dale, Dan Liddell and Luke Milliband.
Newton won 4-1 at Overseal St Matthews thanks to a brace from Dean Bramley and one each from Lewis Bramley and Phil Liddell.
Derby Rolls-Royce Leisure Reserves beat Panthers 3-1.
Not content with one big name player, Bargate Rovers Reserves have now signed his brother Olkan Hacifalihoelu and he scored twice for them as they beat Ashbourne Reserves 3-1. David Baker got the other Bargate goal.
