Ripley win a thrilling tie

RIPLEY Town produced a stunning victory from a thrilling cup tie at the Town Ground.

With seven players unavailable it was always going to be toughand Ripley were rocked as the home side stormed into a 2-0 lead in the first ten minutes with goals from Dan Storer and Jake Watson.

To their credit, Ripley fought back well and were level after 30 minutes when firstly Ross Layton went clear and finished in style, then Darren Chatterton scored with a deflected shot.

Things got better for the visitors when Jay Harrison cleverly beat the home keeper and Chatterton got the final touch to send Ripley into the interval with a 3-2 lead.

Ripley then shocked Heanor further still when straight from the restart, Harrison broke clear and scored with a classy finish.

Paul Lavender’s side also hit the bar and went close through Chatterton, Harrison and Layton as Heanor struggled to contain the lively visiting forwards.

With 13 minutes left, Storer got his second goal of the game to set up a nervy finish but Ripley held out for a well-deserved and hard-fought upset.

Ripley now take a Christmas breka and are not in action again until Saturday, January 7, 2012.
