Ripley Town gatecrashed Wirksworth Ivanhoe’s promotion party to end the Midland Regional Alliance Division One season in fine style.
Needing to win to get the runners up spot and promotion, this rescheduled game didn’t go according to the script.
Town were 2-0 up in eight minutes with a quick fire double from Lewis Parkin as the visitors took control.
Parkin’s first was a close range shot, followed by a brave header.
The hosts pulled a headed goal back to leave Ripley 2-1 ahead at the break.
The second half was hard fought and Town got a deserved third with a fine finish from 30 yards from Craig Monks but Wirksworth set up a tense finale with a scrambled goal.
Ripley however had the final say with Parkin firing his hat-trick goal from the penalty spot to spoil Wirksworths hopes.
A sixth-place finish is a little disappointing after their flirt with promotion but it’s been a season of progress and, with some hard work ahead over the summer to improve the squad, the future is looking brighter for Ripley Town.
