Ripley Town followed up a midweek defeat at Little Eaton with a hard fought win at the Nottingham Road ground on Saturday in Division One of the Midlands Regional Alliance.

The unseasonal weather has certainly taken its toll in recent weeks with a number of games being cancelled.

As a result of this, Ripley looked rusty in Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat, Liam Brown giving Ripley the lead only for the hosts to strike twice late on to win the game.

But Town showed great spirit in Saturday’s exciting encounter.

Twice ripley led, only for Rowsley to hit back.

Firstly, Ross Layton’s stunning volley was cancelled out before half-time, then on the hour mark Liam Brown struck, only to see Rowsley again restore parity.

But Layton had the final say as he was sent clear to finish with style.

This Saturday, Ripley host leaders Woolley Moor.

n It was a bad day for Swanwick Pentrich Road as the first team lost 3-0 at Mickleover RBL while the Reserves lost 4-2 at Little Eaton.

In midweek, the Reserves lost 5-4 to Allenton Reserves with Steve Huntingdon, two,Phil Gregory and Guy Wilding netting the Swanwick goals.
