RIPLEY RAScals second place Round two of the National Arena swimming league took place at Alfreton Leisure Centre on Saturday, November 9, and was another fantastic night of swimming that ended with Ripley RASCALS finishing in a strong second place behind winners Derby Phoenix. RASCALS were only informed of the venue in the week prior to the event, and were also asked to host/organise the gala in this their second year of competing in the Arena swimming league. Great credit must go to the organisers at RASCALS for managing to pull the gala together at such short notice. Teams were in attendance from Haden Hill, Boldmere, Wombourne and Leicester Neptune, but it was in reality a two-horse race between the teams from RASCALS and Derby Phoenix. As in the first round,

RASCALS made the early running, quickly going into a lead after the first ten events.

Derby Phoenix mounted a strong response to finding themselves behind, and swam their way into the lead, eventually running out winners on the night by 19 points, finishing on 230 points to RASCALS’ 211. Haden Hill finished third on 168 points.

There were some fine swims on the night, with wins from Molly Cooper (50m butterfly), Fearn Middleton (100m backstroke and and 100m breaststroke), Adam Threlfall (100m backstroke), and Xander Parr (100m freestyle).

There were some very strong performances in the relays, with wins in the girls under 11s freestyle and medley relays, and under 13s boys and girls freestyle and medley relays.
