Ripley Rangers U12s took a share of the points after an exciting 3-3 draw with table-toppers Sherwood Colliery.
In a game which both sides will feel they could have won, it was Ripley who started the brighter, playing fast flowing football.
A slick passing move down the right saw Ben Hilton release Todd Wells to make it 1-0 to Ripley. It was a smart finish across the keeper with the outside of his right boot.
Ripley continued to dominate in the run up to half-time. Hilton burst through on goal, but shot wide and Wells blasted another good opportunity over the bar. Sherwood made it 1-1 against the run of play when they stole possession from the Ripley defence and gave keeper Joe Timmons no chance.
There was still time before the break for Hilton to have a goal disallowed for off-side.
The second half saw a swing in fortunes as Sherwood pushed forward.
Timmons was forced to make a great save early on before Sherwood took the lead from a good move down their left.
It was now Ripley’s turn to defend, but with so much speed in the Ripley team it wasn’t long before they broke from defence with Charlie Willows and Wells linking brilliantly to release Hilton for an assured finish.
Sherwood were still troubling Ripley though and they made it 3-2 when Ripley failed to clear from a corner, with a shot from the edge of the box beating Timmons.
This Ripley side do not accept defeat lightly though and it was not long before they created more chances.
Hilton hit the post with a rasping left foot drive before he battled his way through the Sherwood defence to level the scores.
