RIPLEY crashed out of the DCFA Cup at the last four stage after an uncharacteristically lack-lustre performance on a dreadful pitch last Saturday.

Ripley rarely threatened the visitors’ goal and went down to a goal in each half, both scrappy.

Town keeper Ian Randall made several good saves as Premier Division side Mickleover dominated large parts of the game.

Darren Chatterton and Joe Smith went closest for Ripley in the first half but in truth, the home side never really hit top gear.

Things got worse as Kenny Birks was sent off mid-way through the second half for what the match official adjudged to be a professional foul.

Despite this disappointing result, credit must go to the Ripley players for a great run in this competition and they can hold their heads high.

There is still plenty to play for back in the league and Town resume their quest to finish as high as possible in the MRA first division with an away trip to Little Eaton this Saturday.

Kick-off is 2.30pm.
