Revenge is sweet for Codnor Boys

Under 12s Sunday Division Three

Codnor Boys 3

Gad Khalsa 2

With some ill-feeling still simmering after the last meeting, Codnor were in determined mood.

They gained revenge in style, on a very sticky pitch, playing lovely football in the process.

Codnor began the game well, creating a number of early chances. On six minutes, Carlin played a delightful ball through to Atkin, who strode on and finished coolly into the bottom corner.

While Codnor ran the midfield with ease, this only encouraged the full backs to get a little too daring going forward, which resulted in Khalsa hitting them on the break, to make it 1-1.

Codnor didn’t let this faze them and carried on playing the ball around. Just before half-time, a ball was played through by Waldron, which seemed to be destined for the keeper’s arms, but Atkin had other ideas.

He chased the lost cause, forced the keeper to misjudge, and then finished into the empty net. The half-time score was 2-1 to Codnor.

On 55 minutes, Khalsa again equalised against the run of play. A smart save from Hubbard only managed to fall at the opposition player’s feet leaving him with the simplest of finishes.

As with most weeks, Codnor never gave in and showed the desire to go on and win the game.

With only ten minutes remaining, they pushed forward and earned a succession of corners. A lovely short corner was played in to Carlin who drove in a shot. The ball was only half cleared, and Parr drove the winner into the bottom corner to earn Codnor the spoils.

Man of the match was Ryan Coutts for his superb effort.
