THE last round of fixtures before Christmas and the New Year saw several teams seize the opportunity to end 2011 on a high note and there were some cracking pre-Christmas results.
Notable amongst them were Melbourne Dynamo, high scorers in the Premier Division, Ripley Town - a famous victory in a local derby cup match, Derby Rolls-Royce Leisure Reserves, high scorers in Division One, Ambergate - high scorers in Division Two and Cromford, winners in another local derby clash.
Melbourne Dynamo hit bottom markers Sandiacre Town 9-0 with Matt Brian scoring four goals and Paul Swallow a brace. The others came from Dave Brough, Danny Guild and Adam Ross.
While Willington were beating Swanwick Pentrich Road 2-0 with scores by Mikey Fitzhugh and Dave Stewar, Rowsley ‘86 were fighting back from 4-0 down at half time to end up losing 4-3 to Chellaston.
Rowsley had their keeper sent off in the first half and then went down to nine men in the second with an injury after all of their substitutes had been used. Tim Baker (2) and Walker scored the Rowsley goals.
Derby Rolls-Royce Leisure Reserves went back to the top of Division One after hammering Bargate Rovers 8-1. Shaun Smith got the reply for Bargate who had two players sent off.
Little Eaton beat Swanwick Pentrich Road Reserves 2-0 thanks to goals from Daniel Buckley and Rob Brough.
Holbrook St Michaels Reserves climb out of the bottom two after beating Pastures 5-1 after a brace of goals from Alex Nix and one each from Richard Allan, Charlie Bangora and Andy Simcox.
Ambergate joined the front-running pack in Division Two after beating Derby Royals Reserves 7-2. Craig Tipton and Andrew Stevenson both scored hat-tricks in the win with Shaun Bestwick adding the other goal.
Bargate Rovers Reserves lost 4-0 to Little Eaton Reserves while JackBodill, Jonathan Peat and Nial Worrall scored the goals which enabled Chellaston Reserves to beat Roe Farm 3-1.
Ripley Town’s epic victory came in the third round of the DCFA Divisional Cup (South) when they won 4-3 at Heanor Town Reserves. The Ripley scorers were Damien Chatterton (2), Jay Harrison and Ross Leighton.
Other cup winners were Mickleover RBL 2-1 over Allestree; Derby Royals’ 3-2 over Newhall United - Sam Griffiths (2) and Andy Bacon on target for the Royals;Newmount, 3-2 at Graham St Prims Reserves and Derby Rolls-Royce Leisure 1-0 at Holbrook Sports Reserves.
Exiting the competition were Woolley Moor United, losers on penalties to Belper Town Reserves and Holbrook St Michaels, beaten 1-0 at home by Hilton Harriers.
In the north section, Cromford edged Wirksworth Town out 3-2 with Kyle Johnson (2) and Alex Statham on target for the victors. Tibshelf join them in the next round after beating Buxworth 4-2 after extra time. Dean Burrows,Gary Wilkinson, Shaun White and Steve Clements scoring for Tibshelf.
Matlock Sports, for whom Lee Boden and Will Eaton both scored, lost 6-2 at Hathersage.
In the DCFA Junior Cup, Newton lost 3-1 to Allenton United Reserves, Phil Liddell the Newton scorer.
In the southern section, Wirksworth Ivanhoe beat Renishaw Social Club 6-0. Craig Spencer hit a brace with the other goals coming from Steve Murphy, Ben Marsh, Dan Smith and Vince Kinder.
Jack Tiver scored the Melbourne Dynamo Reserves’ goal in a 4-1 defeat to Rowsley ‘86 Reserves in the fourth round of the Junior Cup.
