Reserves lose 4-0 in local derby

Belper Town Reserves 4

Heanor Town Reserves 0

Heanor Reserves visited top-of-the-table Belper Town Reserves and found themselves 1-0 down in the first minute when a low ball across the box avoided all but Blake Owen, whose scuffed shot nestled in the bottom corner of the net.

For the first ten minutes, Heanor were struggling to answer Belper’s attacking football, and only the brilliance of Sean Pickworth in goal kept the score down to one goal.

On 11 minutes, the Young Lions had a chance to equalise when Aaron Thawley broke down the right allowing Daniel Storer to lay a perfect ball for Liam Barber to run at the goalkeeper, only to see his weak shot easily saved.

On 24 minutes, Belper were two goals to the good after Selvam scored with an unmarked header into the corner of the goal.

An amazing double save by Sean Pickworth again kept the score down, stretching brilliantly to turn the second effort around the post.

Aiden Shaw broke out of defence and unleashed a stunning shot that crashed against the Nailers crossbar.

A great move by Heanor should have created a goal after Richard Groves’ hard work paid off, but Josh Henrys failed to make the most of the chance.

In the second half, Heanor were reduced to ten men after Liam Barber’s attempted pass intercepted and Belper simply played a long ball which Daniel Bradley was deemed as the last man after what seemed a simple shoulder barge.

This simply fired Heanor into life and they played some excellent football. Fraser Bettinson saw his power shot saved by the keeper, and for a good 20 minutes looked like they might get back into the game, but Belper made it 3-0. Again Pickworth saved well but Vickers tapped in the rebound.

The best chance for Heanor came on 88 minutes when Shaw crossed for Storer, whose shot into the ground beat the goalkeeper but Andreas Kokkinou shot over the bar from three yards.

On 90 minutes, it was 4-0 when the ball evaded Jake Davis and Ash Hunter forced it in.
