Reds ready for trip to Chester

Alfreton Town eclipsed their previous best ever points total in the Skrill Premier as they enhanced their chances of finishing in the play-off places with a 3-0 home win over Hyde on Tuesday evening.

The victory, a first in four league games, sealed a third league double of the campaign and put Nicky Law’s side onto 61 points, six ahead of the chasing pack with ten games still to go.

Alfreton’s previous best tally in non league’s top flight was 60, achieved over 46 games last season when they also posted their highest finishing position of thirteenth.

Both records look set to be smashed by the end of what has already been a magnificent season, as they close in on the chance to compete in the play-offs for a place in League Two for the first time ever.

This is a tremendous achievement considering their return to part-time status last summer.

Unfortunately for Hyde, the defeat confirmed their relegation from the division after a torturous season and Alfreton are now scheduled to face two more sides battling relegation in their next two fixtures, Chester away on Saturday and Tamworth at home next Tuesday.

First up for the Reds is an away trip this Saturday when they travel to take on a Chester side who are one of only two sides to have won at the Impact Arena, 1-0 way back in early October, the other one being champions-elect Luton Town.

The home game against Tamworth next Saturday will see a continuation of the decreased admission fees for younger fans.

Supporters aged under 16 can gain admission for just £1 as long as they are accompanied by an adult and it is just £5 each for 16-21 year-olds.

ATFC Supporters’ Association transport to Chester departs at 9.45am and seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 07857 558401.

Transport to the live BT Sport televised game at FC Halifax Town on Monday, March 24, will depart at 5.15pm.

Meanwhile, Alfreton Town’s Skrill Premier home game against Grimsby Town has been chosen for live TV coverage by BT Sports.

The fixture has been brought forward one day to Good Friday, April 18, with a 3pm kick-off.
