ALFRETON Town wrapped up the Blue Square Bet North title in style as they cruised to a 4-0 home win over Redditch United at a sun-drenched Impact Arena on Saturday.
The title success is almost certainly the club’s greatest ever achievement in their 52-year history
In front of 1,364 – a best home league attendance for over 45 years – Nicky Law’s side clinched promotion to the Blue Square Bet Premier Division with two games to spare, sparking joyous scenes as they were presented with the championship trophy.
Two goals each for strike partners Paul Clayton and Liam Hearn took their respective totals for the season to 20 and 30.
And the newly-crowned champions made it a totally enjoyable Easter as they followed up with a 3-0 win at Gainsborough Trinity on Monday with Anthony Wilson netting twice and Jake Moult grabbing the third.
It is to be hoped another huge attendance will witness the club’s last game in Conference North this Saturday when the Reds entertain promotion-chasing Nuneaton Town at the Impact Arena (3pm).
