Rampant Shiners too hot to handle

South Normanton Athletic recorded a thumping 8-1 win at home to Barrowby on Saturday in the Central Midlands League Black Dragon Division South.

The last time these two teams met, South Normanton lost to Barrowby.

It took 15 minutes for the Shiners to unlock the defence.

Shane Newton opened the scoring and then the second goal came direct from a corner on 22 minutes, taken by Lee Sutton.

Newton on 38 minutes picked up a rebound for his brace, then Newton’s hat-trick came on 42 minutes, courtesy of a ball played from the right by Sutton.

Right on half-time, Danny Roberts opened his account with a reverse strike from ten yards out.

Into the second half, it took five minutes until Shane Newton got his fourth at the back post from a Roberts cross, making 19 goals for Newton in 26 starts for the Shiners .

Barrowby’s McDonald chipped the keeper from 25 yards on the hour, before Kyle Wadsworth scored on 70 minutes after picking up the scraps.

Rob Fretwell finished the job off four minutes from time.
