Railway on track to reach Alfreton Sunday League final

DALE Rayner netted for underdogs RAILWAY TAVERN as they faced up to the formidable challenge of higher league opposition in the shape of JACKSDALE MW in their Dick Windle Cup semi-final tie.

However, the first division outfit ensured there was to be no upset as they went on to secure their place in the final; the margin of victory 3-1.

Jacksdale’s win sets up the prospect of a mouth-watering final in which they will lock horns with CRIB FC who also faced lower league opposition when they travelled to meet Division Three champions GALLOWS INN.

The minnows were still in the game after Lewis Hillier struck to make the score 2-3 early in the second half.

However, the strength of their opposition proved too much in the end as Crib strolled to a 9-2 victory.

Adam Nicholls got four of the nine goals; there was a hat-trick for substitute Dean Owen and one each for Liam Brown and Matt Phillips after Adam Seddon had scored Inn’s opener.

Division Three

In Division Three league action, the GLADIATORS completed their programme against MARLPOOL UNITED and wound up their first season in the league with a very creditable 1-1 draw in a typical end-of-season encounter.

Tomorrow evening (Friday, May 11) sees the re-arranged Out of Town Screen Bowl Final take place at the ground of South Normanton Athletic Football Club.

The game kicks off at 7.15 and will be contested by AMBER ATHLETIC and HOLMEWOOD MW and promises to be an intriguing encounter.
