Spare a thought for Blackwell Miners Welfare who lost out in a cup final for the second week running -- this time in the Alfreton QTS Sunday League’s Dick Windle Trophy.
Seven days earlier, Blackwell were beaten 3-2 after extra-time by Heanor Whitegates in the Alfreton Cup. Further heartache followed as they fell 4-1 to Duffield Dynamos, who were soon two up thanks to a Ryan Bond double. A powerful header by Steven Webster gave Blackwell hope before Ollie Jackson drove home a free-kick and Ollie Derbyshire sealed Duffield’s triumph, ramming home from a corner. Blackwell have also finished runners-up in the First Division, behind champions Littleover Half Moon. Division Two has been won by Shirland MW.
