The Midlands Regional Alliance Junior Cup competition got under way at the weekend, with Shardlow St James entertaining Stapleford Town at The Wharf.
The prolific Shaun Shepherd was on target twice for Division Two leaders Stapleford, but it is Division One high-flyers Shardlow who go into the next round thanks to goals from Liam McCormack (2), Paul Ireson, Liam Slater, Dion Roe, and James Oldham.
Newhall United Reserves also won by a 6-2 margin, with Josh Johnson bagging a hat-trick and goals from Lewis Baker, Connor Rafferty, and Josh Watson seeing them past Bargate Rovers Reserves and into the next round.
It was a much tighter encounter in the all-Division One clash between Rowsley ’86 Reserves and Wirksworth Ivanhoe. In the end, it was hosts Rowsley who progressed thanks to goals from Billy Lester, Danny Ward, and Ben Harrison, with Spencer Craig and Liam Murphy replying for the visitors.
League action at the weekend saw Rowsley ’86 return to the top of the Premier Division table after coming out on top in a ten-goal thriller at Matlock Sports. Two apiece from Will Fletcher and Sam Hoskin, along with goals from Nik Baker and Aaron O’Neill, saw Rowsley run out 6-4 winners.
With Newhall United’s trip to Cromford falling foul of a waterlogged pitch, the only remaining game in the Premier Division took place at Wirksworth Town, where the hosts hit two goals without reply against Sandiacre Town thanks to Jacob Bradbury and player-manager Carl Moore.
